TIME: It’s Twilight in America

Posted on 22nd November 2009 in Books, Movie

The story begins with a dream. It wasn’t the Great American Dream — Stephenie Meyer, then a 29-year-old Mormon housewife living in Arizona, wasn’t sitting at home trying to figure out how to be the next mega-best-selling author. It was a different kind of dream.

On the morning of June 2, 2003, Meyer woke up with the fading afterimage of a vision in her head, of a young woman and a vampire, talking, in a meadow. She didn’t want to forget it, so she wrote it down. Then she kept on writing. Sometimes you have the dream, and sometimes the dream has you.
Everybody knows where the story ends up. Meyer has sold 45 million books in the U.S. and 40 million more worldwide. Altogether her books have spent 235 weeks on the New York Times best-seller list, 136 of them at No. 1. The movie version of Twilight, which came out a year ago, made $350 million. New Moon opens on Nov. 20; the third installment, Eclipse, arrives in theaters next June.

But what happened between the beginning and the end? How did the dream become the Global Franchise Megabrand? That’s the part that not everybody knows.

Stephenie Meyer will sit down with Oprah THIS Friday!

Posted on 11th November 2009 in Books

MTV.COM reports that Stephenie Meyer has an announcement in her blog for everyone:

“You know I’ve been doing the hermit thing this last year, in so far as media is concerned, and I’m not changing that now, but I am making an exception,” she wrote on her website. “I’m doing this for a good reason: I am so pleased and amazed and thrilled with what Chris Weitz has done with ‘New Moon’ that I want to talk about it, and to show my support for him. And since I’m only doing one interview, better make it big. Really big. So….I will be on ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’ on Friday, November 13th.”

Be sure to watch Stephenie in her huge interview of 2009 this Friday…the 13th!

On this panel, Melissa Anelli of The Leaky Cauldron (the most all-encompassing Harry Potter fan site) and Laura Byrne-Cristiano of the Twilight Lexicon will be present to discuss online communities and what it means to take fandom to another level.

Webmistress Melissa Anelli is a freelance writer living in New York City who is smitten by all things Harry Potter. These days Melissa spends even more of her free time writing a book chronicling the Harry Potter fan phenomeon. She is the author of the New York Times Bestseller Harry, a History: The True Story of a Boy Wizard, His Fans, and Life Inside the Harry Potter Phenomenon.

Laura Byrne-Cristiano is one of the co-owners of the Twilight Lexicon. Aside from running what is arguably the longest continually operating Twilight website on the Internet, Ms. Byrne-Cristiano used to be one of the moderators of the Werewolf Registry.

Michelle Trachtenberg Talks About Edward (and Angel)

Posted on 9th April 2009 in Books, Movie

“About a decade ago, long before “Twilight” bloodsucker Edward Cullen won the hearts of teen girls everywhere, another vampire from “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” named Angel was wooing girls with his dark, brooding charm.

So, let’s say that Angel and Edward Cullen met in a dark alley one night and had to battle it out — who would win? Former “Buffy” star Michelle Trachtenberg isn’t sure. “Ooh … ah … goodness! Angel and Edward Cullen — good stuff!” she said, laughing. “I think Angel’s bigger than Edward Cullen, just physically, so it would be a battle to the pointy teeth. We’d have to see it play out. I couldn’t possibly predict it.”

Although there’s debate over whether Edward Cullen has a soul, in the Buffy-verse Angel most definitely did — which might make a vampire battle quite interesting. “Angel has a soul. … Drama! Vampire drama!” she said. “I did have a big crush on Angel when I was a little girl,” she said. “And I think Edward Cullen is definitely dreamy, but I haven’t seen the movies so I can’t go 100 percent on who’s dreamier.”"

Interview With Twilight Hands Model

Posted on 3rd April 2009 in Books

PopStar: What was the audition process like?
Kimbra Hickey: It was like any other hand model audition. I had to go meet the photographer, Roger Hagadone, who was hired to shoot the cover. He took a couple pictures of my hands. After having a look at my portfolio I gave him my composite card and left about 15 minutes later. Other hand models were also there auditioning for the job.

PopStar: When/how did you find out you got the gig?
Kimbra Hickey: I found out a few days later. My agent called to tell me I got the job from the book cover audition I went on. That’s when I found out more details, the name of it was Twilight and it was a vampire love story.

PopStar: Did you have to do anything special to your hands in order to prepare for the shoot?
Kimbra Hickey: Yes. I had to file my nails to be much shorter than they were at the audition and they also asked me to keep them a natural color.

PopStar: What happened to the apple?
Kimbra Hickey: Hmmm. What did happen to the apple?? That particular apple was the “hero” apple; it photographed best of the bunch we had on set that day so it made it to the final shot. At any given shoot the hero product is very special. When it’s finished being used it usually has to stay with the photographer or creative director, just in case they need it for something else on the project. So my last sighting of it, to be exact, was 9/24/04 at about 5pm in Roger Hagadone’s studio. Might want to ask him what happened next. Where did the hero apple end up from there!?”

Stephenie Meyer Day 2009

Posted on 24th January 2009 in Books

“Here’s early notice–Stephenie Meyer Day 2009 is happening September 12-13, 2009, in Forks, WA!! While this year’s event is still in the organizational stages, based on the overwhelming response last year, we want everyone (including folks in, um, Arizona . . . ) to have a chance to make plans to be here on Bella’s Birthday to celebrate with us. Now is the time to make lodging reservations in Forks or LaPush for this weekend–the entire area was booked solid last year. Many fans arrived before the weekend and/or stayed a day or two afterward, to have more time to fully enjoy everything the area has to offer.

Last year’s event featured Forks High School tours; the Mayor’s Proclamation; Bella’s Birthday Cake; a Group Photo; Bella, Edward and Jacob Look-Alike Contests; Book Readings and Discussion; a Wolf Dance and a Bonfire with Native Storytelling in LaPush; along with access to gobs of Twilight-related merchandise, opportunities to see the local sights, visit the Chamber of Commerce Visitor Center and socialize with hundreds of other totally-out-of-control Twilighters. How can you beat that?”
